Why you can trust the advice here
Every port tip has to still look sound on the day. This page shows how we decide, when we say skip a tour, and where booking actually happens.
Port reality first, products second
Advice starts from the call you actually have, not from a catalogue. We work through the same constraints you will meet ashore:
- Time ashore. All-aboard is non-negotiable. Buffer comes before stretch goals.
- How you leave the ship. Pier walk, shuttle or tender. Queue time is part of the day on tender mornings. See Mediterranean tender ports.
- Distance to the real prize. City harbours differ from distant ruins and multi-region transfers. Florence via Livorno, Ephesus and Santorini tender mornings need different transport discipline than a walkable centre.
- One focus, not fifty. Depth is optional once you know the one thing not to miss.
Only after that shape is honest do formats matter: independent walk, small group or private day on the destination site.
Some days are better without a tour
If the best plan is a walk from the pier, public transport, staying nearer the ship, or simply enjoying the harbour, we say so. Our scoreboard is a better day ashore, not a transaction on every stop.
Typical cases: the berth already puts you in a walkable centre; the highlight is close and you keep a genuine return buffer; adding sites would only add stress; or a full tour exists mainly because a product sheet exists, not because it fits your call.

This site is for Mediterranean cruise planning: ships, cruise lines, ports and plain notes. Local destination websites own operators, products and checkout for each harbour.
When you choose View excursions, you leave for the port site. That split keeps planning here, and purchase with the people who run the harbour.
Once you have told us your cruise, we keep that sailing with you as you move between pages and destination sites, so you are not asked again for the same line, ship and date.
When we cannot recommend confidently
Sparse schedule data, unclear tender practice or thin local detail should show as uncertainty, not as a confident sales line. In those cases we say when coverage is thin, ask you to confirm times with your cruise line, and prefer a narrower, safer day (or independent exploration) over a stretch tip we cannot defend.

- Are you a cruise line?
- No. We are an independent Mediterranean planning site. Your cruise line owns the sailing, berths and published times. We help you plan days ashore around those calls.
- Do I book excursions on this website?
- No. Plan ships, ports, tender notes and the shape of the day here. When you are ready, open the local destination website for that harbour and book there.
- How accurate are the ship times here?
- Ship and line pages draw on published Mediterranean port calls. Weather, operations and commercial changes can move pier days. Confirm times with your cruise line before you rely on a tight plan.
- Do I need a tour in every port?
- No. If the berth is close to a walkable centre and the day is short, we often prefer independent exploration with a real all-aboard buffer. A forced tour is worse than a quiet day that fits the call.
- Why do some links open a different destination website?
- Each harbour keeps its own destination site for local operators, products and checkout. Planning stays on this Mediterranean site; purchase detail lives with the port that runs the day.
- Who do I book with?
- When you choose View excursions you leave for that harbour's destination website. Operators, products, capacity and checkout sit there, not on this planning site. We are not the cruise line and we do not run a second checkout here.
- What if my itinerary changes?
- Treat published calls as a planning resource. If your line moves a pier day, re-check times with them, then adjust the day here or on the destination site. We will not invent a full itinerary when coverage is thin.
